LadyKillers, indeed!
Went to watch the latest Tom Hanks movie, and I'm glad to say that it is true to its word - except it slayed not only one, but two ladies. Before you cobble me for being corny, do understand first that yours truly was infected. Pure infection. After all, it is hard to stay alive when one is face to face with a killer for 2 hours.
Well, it started innocently enough with an old black lady, two stout sheriffs, whose main job was to pick Pickles (the old lady's cat) from the tree, and a gospel choir that could fill half of a small church in a quiet town. Then, the main characters entered the scene. Each was given a brief (ok, slightly funny) introduction of their 'talents', which the 1st sub-plot was pegged to.
Stringing these men together for the main purpose of stealing money from a casino's underground vault was Hanks. Spouting poetry and quoting uncomprehensible Renaissanciance lines, the novelty of his character soon wore off (at least for me). I thought it was just a disguise and expected him to throw off his sheep's skin, actually. Alas, it was not to be.
So anyway, he rented a room and the basement from the old lady to carry out their plan, and started spinning tales whenever she intruded. Unfortunately, the (real movie) story spun out of control as it progressed and the 2nd sub-plot just made me think single-syllable thoughts like 'Huh?!' and 'Duh!?' aloud. Unbelievably cheesy development of the story with cliched one-faceted characters pushed me deeper in my seat.
At the end of it, I turned to ZB and asked a heartfelt question: "Do you hate the show, or do you hate me?" My decision to ignore my friends' warnings that the show received bad reviews landed us before the killer.
Moral of the story is, believe reviews if all of 'em say that it's a bad movie.
Or rather, if all of us say it's baaaaad. Bah!
*Addendum: To be fair, one good review here. But who would you trust, one or ten thousand reviews? =P
