Genesis
An interesting explanation of shooting stars by an American Indian tribe of the Pacific Northwest.
This tale involves a central character in many Indian legends -- Coyote. Eons ago, the tale says, he was an ordinary coyote, except for one thing: he loved to dance from dusk till dawn. One night he asked the stars if he could come up and dance with them.
Eventually, the stars agreed, and Coyote fired an arrow into the heavens. When it stuck, he fired another, which stuck to the shaft of the first -- followed by another, and another.
Coyote climbed his ladder and danced joyously among the stars. But many of his fellow coyotes were envious, and they climbed the arrow-ladder to join him. And occasionally, the legend says, one of the coyotes tires and falls to Earth -- creating a brief, glowing streak across the sky. Sometimes lots of dancing coyotes fall at the same time, creating meteor showers.
Quite scary actually... imagine screams for help as they fall.. Ew. What a spoiler legend!
