The Intangibles
Sometimes, it's not the seen that matters, but the unseen. What you can see does not necessarily kill because you can do something with it; like avoiding the oncoming car, stepping over the manhole, fleeing from a flying roach.
The scary thing is with the unseen and intangible, which can't be avoided as you'd wish; like memories creeping up into your unsuspecting mind, the ache that gnaws in your heart, the dreams (and nightmares) that fill your sleep only to remind you again in the morning, the words that ring in the ears - and there is no way to shut each and every one of them out.
