Melanchlonely

Loneliness is an emotional state in which a person experiences a powerful feeling of emptiness and isolation. Loneliness is more than just the feeling of wanting company or wanting to do something with another person. Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected, and/or alienated from other people, so that it feels difficult or even impossible to have any form of meaningful human contact. Lonely people often feel empty or hollow inside. Feelings of separation or isolation from the world are common amongst those that are lonely. The first record of the word "lonely" being used was in a play by William Shakespeare.

Loneliness should not be equated with being alone. Everyone has times when they are alone for situational reasons, or because they have chosen to be alone. Being alone can be experienced as positive, pleasurable, and emotionally refreshing if it is under the individual's control. Solitude is the state of being alone and secluded from other people, and often implies having made a conscious choice to be alone. Loneliness is therefore unwilling solitude.

Ha, amusing definition. May I add too that loneliness is a feeling of walking about in a thick bubble, unable to communicate freely to anyone outside of it. You see and hear others, and vice versa; but somehow it's muffled and blurry. All that's audible is your own breathing and heartbeat. In the end, you give up. You wish someone would burst that bubble and thereby include the rest of the world back again.

Well, actually that would happen eventually. But it's only temporal, and even artificial. The sounds from outside simply drown out what you hear from within. Prolonged exposure will have a numbing effect. Subsequently, and ironically, the realisation of that makes you create the bubble all over again. Perhaps out of a fear of losing yourself in a facade.

Moments of loneliness creep in when you least expect it. Unavoidable, it seems. But I suppose such times serve their purpose of leading to God... if taken in a positive light. It's like, not even those closest to you (in all sense of the word) understand, or make you feel like they truly understand, what you are feeling. Like disconnected. Nobody's free for you, and nobody is listening. Sometimes, I give up and don't even feel like talking aloud, except in my mind to God.

Dun like this feeling.
