France. This dog became a favourite of the Florentine nobles in the 15th century and is widely believed to be the dog included by the Spanish artist, Francisco de Goya (1746-1828), in a painting of his friend, the Duchess of Alba. This breed is a member of the Bichon family and is thought to have originated from the Mediterranean area, but is considered a French breed.

Personality
Resembling (when clipped and pruned) a miniature lion, this is in fact an affectionate, good-natured little animal with considerable intelligence.
